2. Choose the right car
There is the import regulation for all cars being imported into Srilanka. A certified copy of the cancelled vehicle registration certificate which shall be laminated and bear an embossed hologram official seal.
If Certificate is not belonging with the car, you have to pay the penalty on each of the cars you import and Import control license to be obtained from import control department for the over aged vehicles prior to the date of shipment of the particular vehicle.

3. Payment
Once you have decided to purchase the vehicle, you can receive the Invoice from the supplier. The most of the company prefer the customer to arrange the payment by Bank remittance.
Once you get the invoice, you can print it out and bring it to your local major bank to transfer money to their bank account. Make sure to have the receipt of your payment at your bank as it is proof of your money transfer and you can submit it to your supplier for their quicker confirmation.

4. Shipment delivery
To obtain delivery of the vehicle you need to:
- Arrange an agricultural clearance for the vehicle through Quarantine department of Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry.
- arrange for a Customs clearance
After Customs clearance, the vehicle should be presented to a Lands Transport Authority (LTA) agent for inspection and a compliance audit for certification for registration.

5. Port clearance and custom clearing
Shipping companies and Customs Agents will usually provide arrival papers around the time your vehicle is imported. Some freight forwarders/Customs brokers or Customs Agents will also assist you with the Customs formalities.
